When I try to save a Multiline style in v6, why do I get an error message?

Solution

In VCADD6, Multiline styles are saved as regular style files (.vcsty) in the Styles folder.  The name of the style file is an exact copy of the name entered in the Multiline Settings (MS) dialog.  Because the style name is also the file name, it must follow the rules for Windows files names.

If you are getting an error message relating to file or path problems when saving a Multiline style, ensure that you are not using a character that is not allowed in a Windows filename.  The illegal characters are listed below.

  • < (less than)
  • > (greater than)
  • : (colon)
  • " (double quote)
  • / (forward slash)
  • \ (backslash)
  • | (vertical bar or pipe)
  • ? (question mark)
  • * (asterisk)
