Macros can be written in any language that supports ActiveX objects. This includes VBScript and JScript which are included with Windows. Because these are the most common languages used for macros, their extensions are listed in the "Run Macro" dialog. Other languages, including compiled .exe files, can be selected by using All Files.
While VBScript and JScript are adequate for many tasks, they have limited user interface (UI) capabilities. For more advanced macros, we recommend AutoIt http://www.autoitscript.com. It's free and is a very extensive VBasic-like language.
